About me

My name’s Richard Lord. I am an independent Actionscript and PHP developer and consultant based in London, UK. I work for a diverse range of clients, either leading the client’s development team through a project or working as a sole developer.

I spread the word on the joys of Actionscript by training and mentoring developers in programming and speaking at conferences about various Actionscript related topics. My most requested talks are the use of Actionscript in game development, particularly in relation to physics and AI.

While most of my current time is spent programming Actionscript, over the last 16 years I have used a mulitude of different programming languages (12 at the last count). My work includes games for PCs, Playstation2, XBox and the web, applications for the United Nations and the Arts Council of England, and installations at the Science Museum and the National Gallery.

Among my current work

  • I assist clients’ in-house teams in developing Flash and Flex based projects, often leading the team through the project, particularly where the team is lacking in skills or experience that I can provide.
  • I assist and advise clients during the planning and development phases of projects.
  • I rescue projects that have gone astray, usually because the development is behind schedule or the code simply isn’t working.
  • Working from my own office, I develop projects that clients outsource to me.
  • I provide training and mentoring, both through formal training courses and through in-house coaching and team development.

  • I speak about Actionscript development at international conferences
  • I develop an open-source Actionscript 3 particle system - Flint Particles
  • I developed and maintain a couple of popular web sites - Strictly Sudoku and One Wishlist
